Activity Description

Rivers of Steel Presents:

Industry & Innovation: The Explorer Bikes and Boats Tour

May 26 and July 21, 2019

Difficulty Level: Easy

Duration: 4-5 hours

Distance: 8.5 miles

Price: $85

Pittsburgh’s innovation story doesn’t begin in the 21st century!  This tour pairs guide Eric Horgos with Rivers of Steel’s PGH 101: An Intro to Innovation tour on the Explorer riverboat—sharing the stories of how the region has continually evolved. Discover how the industries of yesterday shaped the Pittsburgh of today!

The day begins with a ride that loops from Golden Triangle Bikes to Station Square, up the Three Rivers Heritage Trail and back down the GAP to Point State Park with stops along the way that give context to how our region’s industrial past was fueled by innovations.  At the Point, you’ll hop onboard Rivers of Steel’s green riverboat for a traditional immigrant-inspired lunch catered by Iron Oven and a 90-minute sightseeing tour on all three rivers! The day will wrap with a quick ride back to Golden Triangle Bikes.
